Toyota Canada, along with the Ontario and federal governments, will invest $545 million at the Cambridge and Woodstock assembly plants.
The round of upgrades will support production of cleaner, more fuel efficient vehicles at Toyota’s Ontario plants.
The announcement was made this morning at the Cambridge plant by Cambridge MP Gary Goodyear, who is also federal Minister of State for Science and Technology. He was joined by Kitchener Centre MPP and Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities, John Milloy.
The province says the plan dubbed “Project Green Light” will help secure 6,500 jobs at the two plants. Ontario and the federal government will each contribute $70.8 million.
The plant in Cambridge assembles the Toyota Corolla and the Lexus RX350 crossover utility vehicle, while the Woodstock plant assembles the RAV4 crossover.
