A new Cambridge Arena

A new 6,000 seat multi-purpose arena won’t becoming to the city of Cambridge after all, instead, Mayor Doug Craig says council is looking at a smaller facility more in tune with his cities needs.

The study instead suggests the best route to go for taxpayers is a 750-seat multi-purpose facility at a cost of just over $24-million that could be used as a rink and for smaller events and shows.

Craig tells 570 news a staff report looking at building a large arena revealed it would cost $56-million to build and would lose between 750,000 to $2-million a year…

Mayor Doug Craig also tells 570 News that council is looking at replacing aging arenas in the future.

The biggest arena in the city is the Galt Arena Gardens with a capacity of 1,400.
