RIM shareholders meeting

Some of the spark has been removed from a potentially explosive Research in Motion shareholders meeting later this month.

A group of investors wanted a vote held on July 12th on whether or not to split RIM’s chief executive and chairman roles. Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis currently serve as both co-CEOs and co-chairmen.

But, according to Bloomberg News, a deal has been reached between RIM and Northwest & Ethical Investments LP – the group behind the motion – that removes it from the table.

Instead, RIM has agreed to a study to be conducted by a committee of independent directors to analyze its board structure.
