Canucks get new AHL farm team

CHICAGO, IL. (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks kicked off a big week with a news conference in Chicago this morning.

After a great relationship with the Manitoba Moose, the Canucks now start a new partnership with the Chicago Wolves as their American Hockey League affiliate. Chicago is where the Canucks will put their top prospects. But the Wolves still need a new head coach.

Vancouver was hoping to get a shot at Kirk Muller to coach their prospects, but he’ll do that for Nashville as he’s been introduced as the new head coach in Milwaukee today.

Today is also the deadline for NHL teams to send qualifying offers to their restricted free agents and the Canucks did that with forward Jannik Hansen.

Canucks GM Mike Gillis also has four days to sign his unrestricted free agents who could hit the NHL free agent market in five days. The two big ones are defenceman Kevin Bieksa and Christian Ehrhoff.
