Rabid Vancouver Canucks fans swarmed into Boston Monday, hoping to see the Vancouver squad hoist Lord Stanley’s mug in game six of the NHL finals. But Boston fans, who likely include a few Nova Scotians, say they’re not counting out a seven-game series.
The Vancouver Canucks are one win away from bringing the Stanley Cup back to Canada for the first time since 1993 and fans don’t want to miss what could be a historic night in Boston.
Many Beantown bar owners are welcoming Canucks fans to their establishments to watch the match, shoulder to shoulder with Bruins’ fans.
“I think Vancouver fans are a little more laid back, a little more easy going,” says bar owner Peter Colter. “They seem to get along okay.”
There have been reports of bad treatment of Canuck fans during the previous away games in Boston.
“A lot of people did know of us and had seen us on YouTube or whatever,” Green Man Sully says, “When we got into the game all of that was swept under the rug and we instantly became enemies of a lot of people down there. It was a mixed reaction. Probably 90 per cent of people were great with us and another 10 per cent at the game were a little rough.”
Vancouver leads the series 3-2, but were humbled 8-1 and 4-0 in their first two attempts at TD Gardens.
If Vancouver wins Monday night, it will be the team’s first Stanley Cup.
