Two Rangers on Coach’s Corner

A couple of Kitchener Rangers were in the spotlight on CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada last night during Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final.
Don Cherry talked to 4 young players he sees as making an impact in the NHL after they get drafted this summer and highly touted Rangers forward Gabriel Landeskog was one of those players.
Joining Landeskog in the special segment of Coach’s Corner were Dougie Hamilton of the Niagara Ice Dogs, Jonathan Huberdeau of the Saint John Sea Dogs and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of the Red Deer Rebels.
Landeskog is the 2nd ranked skater in North America according to Central Scouting ahead of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Nugent-Hopkins holds the top ranking, while Huberdeau (3rd) and Hamilton (4th) round out the top-4. The the 2011 draft will take place June 24th and 25th in Minnesota.
Also of note, Ben Fanelli’s fight to return to playing the game he loves got a mention from Grapes last night. Fanelli recently competed in a triathlon to help raise funds for Head Strong.
Cherry mentioned Fanelli’s courageous fight to return to game action after suffering a head injury when he was hit hard into the boards in a game on October 30th, 2009.
