Canada Post Rejects Latest Offer

Canada Post has rejected the latest contract proposals from the union representing 50,000 urban workers, saying they are too expensive.
Crown corporation spokesman, Jon Hamilton, says the Canadian Union of Postal Workers has been told its offer would have added too many labour costs and has been rejected.
Hamilton says Canada Post has made some concessions and still hopes to reach a negotiated settlement.
Businesses coping with rotating postal strikes by the union have warned that the postal system will soon get “gummed up” once the walkout expands to larger centres like Montreal.
Montreal was hit by a 24-hour strike today, which also cut postal service to outlying suburban communities.
Rotating strikes were also held in Hamilton, Ont., over the weekend and in Winnipeg last Friday.
