The NHL’s Stanley Cup Final opens tonight and there are six local connections to the Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins.
Former Kitchener Ranger Gregory Campbell plays for Boston and Former Rangers and Guelph Storm coach Geoff Ward is an assistant coach with the Bruins.
Campbell will be looking to add to his trophy case as he won an OHL Championship and Memorial Cup with the Rangers back in 2003.
Boston also has former Guelph Storm member Dan Paille on its’ roster along with forward Rich Peverley who was born in Guelph.
Rangers grad Victor Oreskovich plays for the Canucks along with former Storm player Manny Malhotra.
Malhotra, Paille and Peverley share another connection as well, all were students at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Secondary School in Guelph.
History and Civics teacher, Joe Tersigni remembers all three and hasn’t decided yet what team to cheer for, although he’s leaning towards the Canucks.
He refers to Malhotra as a close student of his.
Tersigni tells 570 News during his time at Our Lady, Manny was both kind and compassionate.
Malhotra has been cleared to play in the final.
He has not played since March 16th after he was hit in the eye with a puck.
