The City of Kitchener could be tightening the rules of backyard fire pits.
A proposed amendment to local bylaws could get you charged with a nuisance, if your fires produce smells, smoke or particles that bother neighbours.
The change would also apply to any appliances used outdoors, like smokers and wood-burning pool heaters.
Last year Kitchener Fire Department and city bylaw officers investigated 340 complaints to open air burning.
