A weekend long celebration honouring our soldiers and their families kicks off tonight at Bingemans, where a gala dinner is taking place.
‘Celebrate Me Home’ is organized by the Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada.
Honourary Lieutenant-Colonel Owen Lackenbauer says we are losing older veterans very quickly, but there is a new generation of veterans coming back from Afghanistan and it’s important to recognize them as well.
A heads up for residents leaving near the Kitchener Armoury.
This afternoon, in advance of the start of events, 50 soldiers will fire blank ammunition.

hey will do so again tomorrow, this time at The Aud, as part of a salute to Governor General David Johnston.
Johnston will tomorrow unveil a mural portraying soldiers who gave their lives during their service in Afghanistan.
The mural will then make its way across Canada, arriving in Ottawa on Remembrance Day.
In conjunction with Johnston’s visit tomorrow, a musical tribute to soldiers and their families will take place at The Aud.
