RIM to fight suit

Waterloo-based Research In Motion is gearing up for a fight in the courts.

RIM announced this morning it will “vigorously defend” against a purported class action lawsuit, filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.

According to a statement from RIM, the lawsuit alleges that between December 16, 2010 and April 28, 2011, RIM and certain of its officers made “materially false and misleading statements” regarding their financial condition and business prospects.

The suit seeks unspecified damages on behalf of an alleged class of purchasers of the RIM’s common shares during this period.

The statement does not identify who is suing RIM.

RIM believes the allegations are without merit.
