Canada Post rejects latest contract proposal

Canada Post has rejected its union’s latest contract proposal, but it has put forward a counter-offer and has not initiated a 72-hour notice for a lockout.

The Crown corporation says the offer would have increased its labour costs by 1.4 billion dollars.

It says those costs would have to be passed on to customers through a 15 per cent hike in postal rates, or to taxpayers through a request for more government support.
