Toyota shutdown week

It’s shutdown week for production at Toyota plants in Cambridge and Woodstock.

The move is in response to a parts shortage in the wake of the Japan earthquake and tsunami.

The company does say there will be no layoffs during the shutdown.

Workers will still draw a pay cheque and instead of producing vehicles will spend this week involved in training and plant improvement activities.

The local plants employ about 6,500 people.
