GO trains are a step closer to rolling in to Waterloo Region and a one-way ticket to downtown Toronto will cost you about $15, or less if you buy a monthly pass.
GO Transit announced this morning that construction has begun on a train layover station off of Joseph Street in downtown Kitchener.
570’s Tiffany Hendsbee was there…
Vice President of Operations for GO Transit, Greg Percy, says it’s the first step in providing two round trips each weekday between the region and Toronto, with stops in Guelph and Acton. He says, “It’s a great start…You always have to start somewhere and two trains is a very solid start for us.”
Percy says they expect to have the train schedule out in about two months. Service is on track to begin by the end of this year.
Percy was asked about possible noise concerns for people living around the layover facility. He says noise studies have been done and the volume will be well below the required level. He adds, “We have layover sites in the entire GTA and there, noise is not a factor, so we don’t expect it to be here.”
Kitchener Centre MPP John Milloy was also on hand for the announcement and says it’s good news for the region because, “It’s going to create about 60 short term construction jobs for our area and I think sends a very strong signal.”
