Driving through construction zones

We’re well into construction season in Waterloo Region and police have some reminders about driving through work zones.
First of all, it’ll cost you more if you’re caught speeding through a construction zone. Waterloo Regional Police Sergeant Fred Gregory says a ticket for 10 kilometres over will cost you about $60 and 20 kilometres over is around $180 and three demerit points.
Aside from the tickets, Sergeant Gregory says the most important thing is to be alert. He says, “As motorists, we always have to be aware of what’s going on around us and when you come to a construction zone always be prepared and…have a plan of what you’re going to do…be aware that the construction zones are out there and there’s going to be people working…”
Sergeant Gregory adds that you should, “expect the unexpected,” including changes in the road surface and traffic patterns. He says, construction zone or not, you should avoid distractions like the radio and your cell phone.
