Before you head out to vote today, Election’s Canada has some advice: check your voter registration card for the location of your polling station.
Elections Canada says some voters in Kitchener and Waterloo have been getting false information about where to cast their vote.
Spokesperson John Enright tells 570 News they started to get some calls over the weekend from local people asking if their polling station had in fact moved.
Enright some of these people had been contacted via mail or phone that there was a new address for where to cast their vote, sometimes as much as an hour’s travel from their home.
Enright wouldn’t speculate as to where this misinformation has been coming from, but says at this time, he believes they will be investigating.
He wouldn’t say if police or the RCMP would be brought in on such an investigation.
Enright says Elections Canada has not sent this misinformation out, adding they certainly do not change polling stations on the eve of a federal election.
Enright wasn’t aware of how many people received the bad information.
He stresses the correct polling station can be found on the Elections Canada voter card sent through the mail.

However, Elections Canada has confirmed a legitimate change to a polling station: the station at the Fergus Place Retirement Living home at 164 Fergus Ave. in Kitchener, has been moved down the road to the Emmanuel Bible College, at 100 Fergus Ave., due to a quarantine at the retirement home.
