The office of the Fire Marshal is releasing more information on the cause and circumstances of a fire in Listowel that killed two volunteer firefighters.
It says the March 17th fire happened while contractors were repairing the roof of a dollar store in Listowel’s downtown, which led to the interior combustible components catching fire.
The OFM says the firefighters went in to make sure no one was inside the building and part of the roof structure suddenly collapsed.
In a release, Ontario Fire Marshal Ted Wieclawek says, “The OFM will continue to conduct further research and analysis of the sequence of events surrounding this fire, to learn from this tragedy. We will, in the future, provide the fire service with additional information and increased knowledge to safely respond to similar fires.”
