Cambridge clinic zoning issues

Dr. Deepa Takhar says 25-thousand people in Cambridge could get a family physician, but that decision is up to council.
Takhar currently operates two clinics. She bought a building on Franklin Blvd to open up additional medical operations there, as she wants to open a weekend-walk in clinic.
She then found out, after the deal was signed, that it’s zoned as an industrial building, so only a quarter of the building could be used for medical use.
She says that’s enough space for three doctors, although she has 10 who are interested in practising there.
Takhar says if the building is re-zoned to accommodate more doctors, her clinic would be a solution to the shortage in Cambridge.
She has received a lot of community support, her patients and fellow residents say it’s a ‘win-win’ situation.
