Chip shortage possible

You use them everyday in your computer, cell phone and any number of electronic devices but the earthquake and nuclear crisis in Japan could lead to a shortage of silicon computer chips.
Japan is one of the major producers of the chips and Larry Smith, Adjunct Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Waterloo, says local companies like RIM rely on the supply chain.
Smith says it, and many other companies, may have to deal with disruptions.
However, barring another earthquake, Smith says the disruptions would likely be short lived.
He also says we need to keep the problem in perspective, saying we can’t let it distract us from the suffering and death in Japan.
