St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Cambridge

Dust off your favourite mug and grab your best green garb, St. Patrick’s Day is coming up this Thursday.
Cambridge is starting celebrations a bit early, with its third annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The parade will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday. The parade route starts at Bishop and King street in Cambridge, travelling down to Westminster, where it ends.
The party doesn’t stop there, as the 126 branch of the Royal Canadian Legion will host an after party of sorts. The parade and event afterward are entirely free and family friendly.
At the legion, families will be able to watch the Doyle Dance Academy perform. As well, the Ulster Accordion Band will play, along with a few others. The legion itself will be holding an Irish stew reception.
The coordinator and founder of the parade, Jacqueline Murray, hopes that the weather holds together and more people come out this year. Last year around 850 people showed up to the parade but huddled inside of nearby stores or stayed in apartments to watch because of poor weather conditions.
The future of the parade is still unknown, but Murray has some ideas on how to foster it’s growth.
“Maybe take it out to Waterloo or to Kitchener and make it a regional parade, as opposed to a municipal parade.”
Parade organizers are trying to raise as much funding as they can. They hope to make it much larger as time goes on, whether or not it leaves Cambridge.
