After Saturday’s mild temperatures and rain, a sudden blast of winter has unexpectedly left about 8 centimetres of snow on the ground.
“This is perfectly normal in the process towards spring where you get these storms,” said 570’s Weather Specialist John Wilson. “It will take several of these systems before we get milder, spring weather on its own.”
Meanwhile, the Grand River Conservation Authority issued a flood warning for Ayr and New Hamburg on Saturday afternoon.
Heavy rain and freezing temperatures could flood areas of the Nith River, according the the GRCA.
The areas possibly affected are in the low-lying regions along the Grand, Conestogo and Speed rivers.
River levels are expected to peak in New Hamburg early Sunday morning and in Ayr early Monday morning.
