Toronto cop in hot water

Toronto police are looking into allegations that an officer told women they could avoid sexual assault by not dressing “like sluts.”

The remarks were allegedly made during a campus safety information session at Osgoode Hall Law School last month.

York University’s student paper reports students and staff are demanding an apology and an explanation from police.

Ronda Bessner, assistant dean of Osgoode Hall’s Juris Doctor Program told Excalibur she was appalled by the officer’s advice.

She says those kinds of comments make it difficult for victims of sexual assault to trust police.
