Watershed conditions advisory

The Grand River Conservation Authority has issued a watershed conditions advisory.
Spokesperson, Dave Schultz, tells 570 News the warm weather coming today and for the next few days will melt most, if not all of the snow in the watershed, and will get the ice on the rivers moving.
He says that means the usual problem spots along the Grand River, the Nith River, and other waterways could have ice jams and some flooding.
Schultz particularly mentions Drayton, West Montrose, New Hamburg and more locations through the Grand Valley as places that are vulnerable to these problems.
Schultz says the GRCA will monitor melt and runoff rates, and the automated warning system will alert them if an ice jam forms and water starts to back up and rise.
Schultz says the timing of the melt is a problem.
He says high water conditions are expected last for several days through the Family Day weekend, and parents with kids home from school will have to keep them away from the edge of waterways.
