Mubarak transfers power

Egyptian Vice-President Omar Suleiman is trying to convince angry people in his country to quiet down and move into the future.
Suleiman called on the nation to unite after President Hosni Mubarak again refused to leave office Thursday.
Demonstrators in Cairo’s central Tahrir Square erupted in anger after Mubarak didn’t resign during a speech that day.
Mubarak did not placate them by saying he was handing over some powers to Suleiman.
Local Egyptian-Canadian, Soha Elsayed tells 570News she’s been speaking with several of her relatives and friends in Egypt since Mubarak’s speech.
She says those who were unsure if they should get with the pro-democracy movement are now telling her they’re convinced it’s the only way.
Elsayed says her family members and friends in Egypt now have a new outlook after Mubarak’s speech.
Elsayed says Mubarak’s speech was very disappointing, and he seems to believe in his own greed.
She says she is worried about the future of her home country.
A local rally in support of the demonstrators in Egypt is planned for tomorrow.
It’s being dubbed “In Solidarity with Egypt Uprising” and will take place at Kitchener City Hall at 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
Opposition parties in Ottawa feel Mubarak has made a mistake that could be very costly.
Liberal foreign affairs critic Bob Rae says Mubarak’s announcement is troubling for the region.
He says other nations including Canada should be concerned about violence.
