Charges against a Cambridge man accused in the death of a 4-year-old girl have been upgraded.
28-year old Robert William Boettger had been charged with aggravated assault in the death of Rayna Gagne, but Regional Police confirm to 570 News he is now charged with second degree murder.
Emergency services rushed to the little girl’s Queen Street West home on Thursday where they found her unconscious and suffering life-threatening injuries. She was rushed to hospital.
Gagne had injuries consistent with head trauma and died on Saturday.
Boettger appeared in Kitchener court via video from the Maplehurst jail in Milton yesterday. Police expect he’ll be back in court again Wednesday to answer to the new charge, according to WRPS Spokesperson Olaf Heinzel.
