A brief but widespread power outage turned the lights out in half the City of Guelph and a portion of Kitchener this morning.
Hydro One spokesperson, Danielle Gauvin tells 570 News it was a one-time transformer malfunction, and the outage lasted from 9:23 to 9:45 a.m.
Guelph Hydro, Director of Corporate Communications, Sandy Manners tells 570 News the outage was “upstream” from their feed, so half their territory was blacked out, hitting 20,000 households.
Manners says the outage cut a large swath through their service area, from Southgate to Paisley, and from the Hanlon Expressway over to Gordon.
The outage also took out 6,700 customers in Kitchener in the Stanley Park area, along with several traffic lights and the Centre in the Square.
