Former WRPS Chief dies

Former Waterloo Regional Police Chief Syd Brown has passed away.

He died earlier today at the age of 85 in his home in Woolwich Township.

In 1977, Brown became the second chief of the local police service following the passing of Chief Wilfred Henrich.

He started his career as a Constable with the Scarborough Police in 1954.

 “On behalf of the members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service, I would like to express our deepest condolences to Chief Brown’s wife Diane and her family, friends and colleagues for their personal loss.  As we mourn his passing together, we will continue to reflect on his many accomplishments, leadership and dedicated service to the citizens of Ontario,” said Chief Matt Torigian.

Visitation and the funeral service will take place at Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home in Kitchener. Visitation will take place Friday, February 4th from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 7:00pm-9:00pm.  The funeral service will be held Saturday February 5th, 2011 at 1:00pm.
