OHL In Waterloo?

A local man, with dreams of bringing an Ontario Hockey League club to the City of Waterloo, says he has a potential ownership group in place.
Frank Leahy has been working for two years on bringing a team to the city and setting up shop in the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex.
Today’s Record identifies Waterloo investors Rob Filiatrault and Dave Libertini and former Guelph Storm president Jim Rooney as being part of the group that wants to buy an existing OHL team and move them to Waterloo.
They have reportedly been keeping OHL Commissioner David Branch in the loop, meeting with him as recently as last month.
The chief hurdle, at this point, appears to be the territorial vetoes the Kitchener Rangers and Guelph Storm hold.
Unless Leahy’s team can convince them to support such a move, they can reject it.
Leahy would like to have a team in Waterloo as early as next year.
