WATERLOO-Police Chief Matt Torigian is set to discuss the business side of policing in Waterloo Region.
He will be at Waterloo Inn from 11:30 to 1 today touching on subjects that range from data collection to measure their performance, and associated demands on police resources.
Chief Torigian says that its a great opportunity to speak to the business community as to what they are doing with the neighbourhood policing model that they have introduced.
The neighbourhood policing model measures their performance as a service, and uses data to forecast future demands that they will face.
Torigian says their are so many pressures to keep to their budgets and the way they spend public dollars and that this will allow them to be the most efficient service they can possibly be.
Over the past three years they have made a conservative effort to reengineer the organization and introduce significant business principals that include performance measurements that will allow them to measure their productivity.
Torigian says that what they already know is that they have an opportunity to save the community millions of dollars a year based on the neighbourhood policing model.
He says that they need to make investment in front line officers and that moving the 50 officers to the front line will save money in the long term.
He says that this is really about being transparent and accountable to this community.
They want to show that their is a return on the investment and that they can articulate that return on the investment with solid business principals.
