UPDATE: Attempted murder charge

More details have been released about a vicious assault in Cambridge that police are treating as an attempted murder.

Waterloo Regional Police say a woman was sleeping in her home early yesterday when a man entered the residence and attacked her – striking her several times with a hammer.

Police say the woman was treated in hospital and then released.

Police made an arrest several hours later.

An 18-year-old Cambridge man is charged with attempted murder, break and enter with intent to commit murder and breach of probation.

Police say the victim and the suspect knew each other.
