Big boost for potato blitz

The 14th annual Don Cameron Potato Night is getting a helping hand from a local grocery store chain.
Zehrs announced today that it will be matching all donations brought to Friday’s Kitchener Rangers game for this year’s Potato Night.
“We’re prepared to match bag for bag,” says Zehrs Stanley Park store manager Cory Ernst.
Last year, Don Cameron Potato Night raised the equivalent of 50,000 pounds of potatoes in support of the House of Friendship’s food assistance programs.
Ernst says Zehrs wanted to demonstrate that it’s involved in the community.
“We have a lot of great customers who are loyal to Zehrs stores in communities across southern Ontario,” notes Ernst. “So this is a way to give back to the community, to show that Zehrs does care and that we want to be great neighbours.”
The House of Friendship distributes approximately 170,000 pounds of potatoes every year.
