570 News has learned the entire Laurier Golden Hawks football team was tested for banned substances this morning by the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport.
It was unannounced testing, the school got just 24 hours notice it would be happening.
The testing of players started at 7-am.
67 players supplied urine samples and 16 of them provided a blood sample as well.
Laurier Athletic Director, Peter Baxter tells 570 News he was not surprised given the CCES said they were going to get stricter.
Baxter adds the CCES was very straightforward since the incident at the University of Waterloo that they were going to be much more aggressive with their testing right across the board.
It’s not known when the test results will be available.
The University of Waterloo cancelled its football program for the 2010 season after a steroids scandal.
Nine players tested positive for banned substances.
