Two arrested in Kitchener murder

Waterloo Regional Police have made two arrests in connection with the New Year’s Eve murder on the Iron Horse Trail.
A 16-year-old boy and 18-year-old man were arrested without incident.
Both are charged with second degree murder and aggravated assault.
Bail was denied for the two teens in a hearing held early Saturday. They were remanded into police custody until their next court date.
Waterloo Regional Police said the date for the second court appearance had not yet been set.
A funeral for the victim, 60-year-old John Ferreira was held on Friday afternoon.
He died of a stab wound to the chest.
The assault charges are in connection with an alleged attack on Ferreira’s son who tried to come to the aid of his father when the pair were attacked on the Iron Horse Trail.
Police say the 18-year-old is not being named because he was 17 at the time of the alleged offence.
