For the third time in five weeks, a jewelry store in Waterloo Region has been targeted by thieves.
The latest robbery was committed at Raffi Jewellers in Conestoga Mall at around 10 o’clock Wednesday morning.
Waterloo Regional Police says four suspects entered the store, smashed display cases and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of jewellery.
One person was hurt as the suspects knocked over a sign.
As they left the store, they released pepper spray into the building.
That prompted an evacuation and the mall was shut down for about three hours as fire officials cleared the air.
Police say all of the suspects were wearing black clothing including puffy jackets.
Their faces were covered and all had their hoods up.
One suspect was larger than the rest, approximately 6 feet tall and one was considerably smaller. They are all of medium build and are likely in their late teens to 20’s.
This is the third jewellery store robbery in the region in a little over a month.
In December, People’s Jewellers and Ben Moss Jewellers were targeted.
Investigators are looking at the similarities between the cases to determine if any of the crimes are linked.
Meantime, Conestoga Mall has released a statement saying it will review its security protocols in the wake of the robbery to determine if they need to be enhanced.
