If you are planning for your big Christmas dinner, don’t forget about food safety.
Waterloo Region health inspector Andy Hong says get an internal meat thermometer to make sure your turkey is cooked to the proper temperature: 82 degrees Celsius, or 180 degrees Fahrenheit, in the inner thigh.
Other poultry products should be cooked to 74 degrees.
Hong recommends cooking stuffing separately in a casserole dish; any side dishes should not be left out for longer then two hours; and refrigerate any leftovers as soon as possible.
And he says don’t forget to wash your hands before and after handling food, and use separate dishes and utensils for raw and cooked food.
