Winter returned with a vengeance to southern Ontario, dumping more than a metre of snow on the London-area.
Waterloo Region got off relatively easy, but more snow is on the way.
The early arrival of winter has reignited the debate over whether snow tires should be mandatory.
Ontario Safety League President Brian Patterson says yes to that question.
He told 570’s Jeff Allan Show opponents of snow tires should examine their cost concerns.
He says they cost roughly $700 and they should last year 5 seasons, meaning an investment of $125 per season which he says is significantly less than the damage sustained in a crash.
His organization is lobbying the province to provide a rebate of $25 a tire to lessen the blow.
Patterson maintains making snow tires mandatory could reduce trauma crashes in Ontario by 500 and save the healthcare system $19-million.
