London still in deep

LONDON, Ont. – Schools in London will be closed again today and there will be no public transit until at least tomorrow, as the city digs out from a snowstorm.

All schools in London, Middlesex and Elgin Counties will be closed as will Thames Valley schools in Oxford County, including Woodstock and Tillsonburg.

The University of Western Ontario and Fanshawe College will also be closed today because of the mammoth snowfall.

Environment Canada says some areas received a metre of snow, forcing thousands to stay home from school and work.

But Mayor Joe Fontana says is not going to declare a state of emergency.  Fontana tells 570 News they’ve already called surrounding communities to spare more snow removal equipment.

Other municipalities, including Sarnia, Guelph and Ingersoll, are expected to send snow plow crews and equipment to help out.

The help will be needed — another 20 centimetres of snow is expected and by the time it stops falling more than 100 centimetres may be on the ground.

That compares to 108-cm that fell on the Forest City between December 2009 and March 2010.
