New cost for Weber St.

The cost is on the rise for a Regional proposal to widen a section of Weber Street in Kitchener.
The idea is to make the stretch between College and Guelph streets four lanes, up from two, straighten out a curve in the roadway, and build an underpass beneath the CN Railway tracks, by the Via Rail station.
This morning’s Record reports the estimated cost has now risen to $52-million, up from the last projection of $39-million.
If this proposal goes through, it would affect 53 homes and businesses.
The goal is to do the work between 2015 and 2018 in an effort to improve traffic flow along a very busy road, reduce collisions and alleviate congestion should rapid transit become a reality, taking out two lanes along King Street.
