Bibles OK’d in public schools

The Waterloo Region District School Board will continue to allow Gideons International to distribute free bibles in its schools.
Trustees voted last night in favour of the move, despite opposition from some quarters.
The bibles will be given to students in grade 5 if their parents sign a permission slip.
This morning’s Record reports a number of different faith groups appeared before the board last night to voice their objections.
They argued against it on several fronts: from the fact they are distributed during school hours to the permission forms sometimes being printed on school stationary.
