Local leaf world’s biggest?

Guiness world records may be falling like the fall leaves, and a Kitchener resident wants to rake up some of the glory.
Nine-year-old Joseph Donato of Pickering recently got the crown from Guinness World Records for having the largest maple leaf.
It measured 34 centimetres wide by 29 centimetres long, not including the stem.
But within days of Joseph’s record being announced, others stepped up with claims of bigger, wider leaves.
Among them: Amber Matusiak of Kitchener, who says her leaf is over 34 centimetres wide, but not quite as long.
Nolan Toner, a nine-year-old in Toronto, says he found a bigger one in a cemetery measuring 43 centimetres wide and 38 centimetres long.
Fittingly, it was found between the graves of Alexander Muir, composer of “The Maple Leaf Forever,” and former prime minister William Lyon Mackenzie King.
And 10-year-old Eve Steel of Vancouver has reported finding a gargantuan leaf that measures about 44 by 34 centimetres.
Carey Low, a Canadian adjudicator for Guinness, says Joseph’s leaf established the record, since the category didn’t exist before.
Now, anyone who wants to challenge the record must contact Guinness through its website.
