The Accelerator Centre and Communitech are teaming up to help new technology companies grow in Waterloo Region.
The new Accelerator Program will be a one-stop-shop for start-up companies.
Communitech President and CEO Iain Klugman tells 570 News, entrepreneurs can apply to the program and, if they’re accepted, they’ll be provided with office space, mentoring, networking, talent recruitment, and access to capital.
Start-ups will be housed at either the Accelerator Centre or the new Communitech Hub. Either way, Klugman says they’ll have the same experience and benefits.
He says the new program allows the two organizations to combine their resources, instead of running two parallel programs.
Klugman says Waterloo Region has historically been an entrepreneurial culture, adding that, on average, Communitech sees a new startup every day. He says helping new businesses succeed has huge benefits for the region, saying each company will be spending money, hiring people and paying taxes.
He adds, “It’s probably the most fundamental way of ensuring the long term prosperity of the community.”
