Operation Christmas Child will begin accepting donations Monday, November 15th, for its annual shoebox campaign.
Paula Schneider has been involved with the program for 8 years and tells 570 News, it’s been sending gifts to underprivileged children for 18 years.
She says you can help by donating a shoe box full of items like toys, hygiene items, and school supplies.
Schneider says the program is part of an organization called Samaritan’s Purse, which sends the gifts to children in countries like Haiti, Senegal, Nicaragua, and Guatemala.
Schneider says the program was started by people who recognized a need in countries hit by war or natural disasters.
She says children are often forgotten when aid is sent so people started packing up gifts and sending them out.
Since then, Schneider says Operation Christmas Child has grown to be the largest children’s Christmas project in the world.
The local warehouse is at Northfield Drive and Parkside Drive and there are a number of collection centres around the region.
They will be accepting donations from November 15th to November 21st.
