New name on cenotaph

The Remembrance Day ceremony in Cambridge today saw another name added to the cenotaph in Galt.

Cambridge-born, Private Garrett Chidley, was killed in Afghanistan last December, and now the cenotaph in Queen’s Square bears his name.

Family members laid a wreath at the cenotaph this morning.

Chidley was 21 years old when he was killed by a roadside blast that killed three other soldiers, and journalist Michelle Lang of the Calgary Herald.

A statement from the family released at the time of his death, shows Garrett spoke with family just the day before he died, saying how much he enjoyed the Tim Hortons gift card his family had sent over for Christmas.
