Local Runners in NYC Marathon

One of the world’s most prestigious races goes today in the Big Apple: The New York City Marathon and there will be a healthy presence of runners there from Waterloo Region.

More than 50 local runners jumped on a bus Friday and have made the trek to New York.

In an effort to stand out from the other 40,000 or so runners, they will all be wearing Canada t-shirts that also identify them as runners from Waterloo Region.

Runner and trip organizer Cheryl Wilson tells 570 News many geared up for the 42 kilometre run by participating in an 18-week training program at Waterloo’s Runners’ Choice which included a lot of hill training.

The marathon will take runners through all five New York City boroughs beginning on Staten Island and ending at Central Park.
