The Waterloo Public Library kicks off their annual fundraiser on Saturday, Musicians Rock and Read for Kids.
Musicians from Bryan Adams to Christina Aguilera to Elvis Costello donated autographed items to the library, like t-shirts and photographs. Those items will be auctioned off on ebay for the next week, along with a copy of the musician’s favourite children’s book.
Sandi Hall, Publicity and Promotions at the Waterloo Public Library, created the fundraiser in 2009. At that time, only country musicians were invited to contribute items for the auction. But this year she has broadened the fundraiser to include musicians from all genres.
Musicians Rock and Read for Kids raised $4000 last year. Hall expects to raise at least that much and likely more because the fundraiser has more musicians involved this year. Hall says some musicians who weren’t able to get involved in 2009, have donated this year.
Bids start at $25 and bidding is open until October 30.
Money raised goes towards children’s literacy collections and programs at the Waterloo Pubic Library.
