Williams no longer colonel

Convicted sex killer Russell Williams has been booted from the military and stripped of his colonel rank.

Defence sources say Gov. Gen. David Johnston agreed to a request from the chief of the defence staff today to revoke Williams’ commission and release him immediately from the Canadian Forces.

On Thursday, Williams was sentenced to life in prison with no parole for 25 years after pleading guilty to two counts of first-degree murder.

The move came as hundreds of people gathered in Belleville for a community healing.

The gathering was held a block away from the court where a judge sentenced Williams.
