The pomp and pageantry was in full swing in Cambridge yesterday to welcome the new commander of the Royal Highland Fusiliers.
Lieutenant-Colonel Jarrett McDonald took command of the Fusiliers during a ceremony outside Cambridge City Hall yesterday.
The Fusiliers are an Army Reserve infantry unit with armouries in Cambridge and Kitchener, and about 150 soldiers — 11 of whom are currently serving in Afghanistan.
McDonald says those 11 will be his top priority: getting them back home from Afghanistan safely, and recognizing the work they did in the war-torn country.
Connecting with the community will also be a top priority, he says.
