RIM takeover?

Despite posting another record quarter for sales, and topping 50 million BlackBerry customers, shares in Research In Motion have fallen 22 per cent this year.
That has led to speculation of a takeover bid.

Duncan Stewart – tech analyst with Deloitte – tells 570 News, Microsoft tops the list of potential suitors.

Stewart says Microsoft would like to improve its position in the smartphone market, and that it has more than enough money to launch a bid.

On the other hand, he says he believes RIM has no desire to sell, and that the company’s high-level managers own enough shares to challenge a takeover bid.

Stewart says that while the company’s market share has fallen slightly in rapidly growing smartphone market, he calls RIM “one of the best-run companies in the world.”
