Martiniuk not running again

Cambridge’s longest serving MPP has announced he will retire from provincial politics in 2011.

After four terms in office, Conservative Gerry Martiniuk says he will not seek re-election next year because he wants to pursue other interests.

Martiniuk adds that he wants to leave politics a winner.

He was first elected MPP for Cambridge and North Dumfries in June of 1995.

When it came to informing his party’s leader of his plans, Martiniuk says Tim Hudak was reluctant, but received the news well.

Martiniuk adds that there are plans for a nomination meeting in the spring.
