Saving is tough

A new RBC savings poll suggests most Canadians are finding it tough to bank money.

57 per cent of people surveyed say it is difficult to meet their savings goals, mostly because they are juggling personal expenses and managing debt.

RBC’s Maria Contreras is telling those Canadians not to give up because saving doesn’t have to hurt.

Contreras advises putting as little as $25 from each pay cheque into a savings account. It might not seem like a lot, but she says it adds up.

She also suggests taking a look at your budget- it could be something as simple as putting your coffee or newspaper money in the piggy bank.

The survey found the most common reasons for saving are to have an emergency fund or go on vacation.
